The whole run, not just the trap
The lint trap catches maybe two-thirds of it. The rest travels down the duct and settles wherever the air slows — at bends, at the transition hose behind the machine, and at the termination outside. All of that is in the price.
- Pull the dryer out and disconnect it, so the duct is open at both ends.
- Inspect and clear the transition hose behind the machine — the crushed, kinked section is almost always here, and a kinked hose undoes everything else.
- Run a rotary brush the full length of the duct from the appliance end, working the lint loose rather than compacting it further along.
- Vacuum the loosened lint out at the duct opening, then clear the trap housing itself, which collects a surprising amount below the screen.
- Clear the exterior termination and check the damper flap actually opens and closes. A flap stuck shut is the same as a blocked duct; a flap stuck open lets the desert in.
- Reconnect, run the dryer on air-fluff, and confirm airflow at the outside vent before we pack up — then bag the lint, show you what came out, and photograph the before and after.

The clean-out is $79.99 and that is the whole transaction on the day. If, within 60 days of it, you take any of the Autopilot plans, the $79.99 is taken off the one-time first visit charge — so the vent you've already had cleaned is the first thing the plan pays for, not a second thing you pay for. Nothing about that happens at your door. You book the clean-out, we clean the vent, we bag the lint and show you what came out, you pay $79.99, and we leave. If you want to hear about the plans while we're there, ask and we will explain them properly. If you don't ask, we won't raise it.
Where this stops
We clean vents. We do not reroute ducting, repair roof terminations or service the dryer itself. If we find crushed ductwork, a detached joint inside the wall or a termination that needs replacing, you get a photograph, a plain description of what we saw, and the name of a licensed contractor who does that work. We don't quote it, we don't attempt it, and we don't take a cut of it.
A clean vent is not a fire inspection and we are not inspectors. Clearing the lint removes the most common cause of a dryer fire; it is not a certificate that the installation behind your wall is sound.
The legal bit
Saltbox Home Maintenance is not a licensed contractor. We do routine upkeep, small repairs and handyman work, and nothing that needs a building permit. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC and gas work go to a licensed trade — we’ll tell you when a job needs one.
The $79.99 price is for a standard single-family home with one dryer vent, and covers the clean-out described on this page. A second vent, a commercial machine or a run that cannot be reached from inside the home is quoted before we start — never at the door, never mid-visit.
One per household. The credit applies to the one-time first visit charge of an Autopilot plan started within 60 days of the clean-out, once, and has no cash value.
